Founded in Phuket, shaped by experience
Aroon Legal opened its doors on Thanon Thalang in the heart of Phuket's old town with a particular focus on inheritance and estate matters — an area of law that touches families at significant moments, and one that demands both legal precision and human sensitivity.
The practice grew from a recognition that people dealing with the passing of a family member, a disputed will, or an unfamiliar foreign estate rarely need an aggressive legal firm. What they need is someone who will explain things clearly, move at a measured pace, and keep them informed throughout.
Over the years we have worked with Thai nationals settling domestic estates, foreign residents navigating property inheritance in Thailand, and expatriate families handling estates that span multiple jurisdictions. Each case is different, and we treat it that way.

Inheritance law in Thailand
Thai inheritance law is governed primarily by Books V and VI of the Civil and Commercial Code, which set out the rules for statutory heirs, the distribution of estates, and the administration of a deceased person's affairs. The system recognises up to six classes of statutory heir, with a spouse holding a special position alongside whichever class is present.
For foreign nationals, the picture is more nuanced. Land ownership restrictions mean that foreigners generally cannot inherit land outright, although condominium units are treated differently. Leasehold rights, personal property, and financial assets each follow their own procedures. A will made abroad may be valid for Thai-held assets but must go through proper authentication to be acted upon.

Phuket's international character means that its estates are often more complex than those found in less cosmopolitan provinces. Property held by foreign investors, mixed-nationality marriages, assets spread across Thai and overseas accounts, and heirs living in different countries all add layers to the administration process.
Our location in Talat Yai places us close to the provincial court and the land office, which means day-to-day administration is efficient. We know the local filing procedures, the typical timelines for different types of application, and the practical requirements that are not always written into the textbooks.
